[ARCHIVED] UPRR Work to Continue on At-Grade Crossings

UPRR 151st St 2

The Union Pacific Railroad announced that the schedule for work on at-grade crossings announced last week has been delayed until the week of August 6th. The at-grade crossings on 151st Street S, 136th Street S, 131st St S, and 128th Street S will be closed intermittently beginning August 8th. A more precise schedule is expected to be announced once the work crew returns from the Labor Day holiday. Drivers in those areas should expect to be rerouted during construction.

The Union Pacific Railroad will be closing the at-grade crossing at 257th E Avenue and Highway 51 mid-morning on Thursday, September 2nd to replace the temporary asphalt on the approach to the crossing. The railroad expects for the crossing to reopen the same day the work is done.

*****SCHEDULING UPDATE 8/29/2021*****

Representatives from the Union Pacific Railroad announced this morning that the crews replacing rail ties in the area have moved faster than expected. As a result, work on at-grade crossings in the Coweta area is programmed to begin on August 31st rather than September 9th as previously announced. Local drivers can expect intermittent closures of the crossings at 151st, 136th, 131st, and 128th Streets beginning on August 31st. Drivers in the area are reminded to pay close attention to the direction provided by the traffic control signage in those areas while the work progresses.

The Union Pacific Railroad announced today that construction crews working for the railroad will be replacing railroad ties between Porter and Broken Arrow beginning the week of September 6th. That work will close several at-grade crossings in Coweta for up to two days at a time. The work on those crossings is tentatively scheduled to take place as follows:

Additionally, the railroad’s asphalt crew is expected to return to Coweta and replace the temporary asphalt at the 141st Street S at-grade crossing on Wednesday, September 1st. That crossing will be closed for one day, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. while the work is performed. That same asphalt crew will return to Coweta later in September to add permanent asphalt to the at-grade crossings listed above. The schedule for that work will be announced by the railroad at a later date.

As always, the exact days for scheduled construction work is flexible due to weather and other factors. Drivers in the affected areas are encouraged to remain alert and pay close attention to the direction of the traffic control signage provided by the railroad.
