What: Public Meeting to share information on the One for Coweta Sales Tax Initiative
When: Monday, January 20th, 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Where: Coweta City Hall, City Council Chambers
What will be happening? City Manager Roger Kolman will share information on the priorities identified by City staff and City Council for addressing current and future key infrastructure in Coweta. The public will have the chance to ask questions, review the proposed project list, and see comparative information on tax rates. This would be a dedicated sales tax, meaning it can only be used for expenditures as specified in the ballot language.
Public surveys consistently show support for parks/park improvements, roadway improvements, a new public safety building, and continued public works improvements.
At the first One For Coweta public meeting in December, Mr. Kolman shared:
- This proposed dedicated sales tax would be used to pay for needed infrastructure, buildings, equipment
- 1¢ would raise approximately $1.3 million/year
- Costs of infrastructure would then be borne by all users (visitors and residents) rather than only residents when using a sales tax versus a bond (which affects property taxes)
- Requires voter approval, slated for a vote this spring
