[ARCHIVED] Beware of Scammers Claiming to be Coweta Police Department

Hat, Handcuffs, and American Flag

Yesterday, a citizen came to the police department to report that he’d received a call showing "918-486-2121" as the caller’s number. That number is the Coweta Police Department’s non-emergency number. The scammer, posing as Coweta PD, then said that CPD was currently working an investigation, and as part of it, was about to freeze this person’s bank accounts. The scammer advised the person to withdraw all his cash, put it on a Target card, and then provide that gift card number over the phone.

To be clear: we do not call people and ask them to withdraw cash, put it on a gift card, and give us the number. We promise. Please let your friends and neighbors know.

If you receive a call like this, please hang up, and then call us at 918-486-2121 and let us know.
